Making Maple Syrup

Did you know that towards the end of winter, once temperatures at night are still below freezing but above 40 degrees during the day, maple sap begins to flow? I had no idea.

Wildflowers. In early spring, I sprinkled seed in a spot at the edge of the yard then “fenced it in” with string at a lazy attempt to keep out the deer. Who have, of course, munched the tops off all the sunflowers but fortunately the bachelor buttons and borage are doing well.
